Constitution Rule 4 (a) Membership

 

1. .ACCOMMODATION

All Burmese cats and Kittens must be accommodated under me following minimum conditions.

 

A General

(i) All construction shall be sound and stable. Floors shall be of permanent materials. All surfaces

    shall be easily cleanable and kept in a clean condition. Lead based paint shall not be used. The

    accommodation should be lighted by a source of daylight

(ii) A separate run and sleeping quarters shall be kept for each and every Stud housed according to

     this code.

(iii) All queens and kittens kept outside the owner’s home shall be housed according to the

       requirements which follow.

(iv) In the case of animals kept in the owners home the standards of cleanliness and floor available

      shall conform to these requirements.

(v) Kittens under 4 months of age may share accommodation as set down for the mother:

Thereafter accommodation shall be as set out for a single animal.

 

B Sleeping Quarters ——for a single animal {for each extra animal increase floor area by 50%}

(i) Minimum size 1/2 metre x 1/2 metre x 1/2 metre.

(ii) Ventilated yet free from draughts and rising damp.

(iii) Protected from prevailing wind.

(iv) Not subject to rain.

(v) Completely roofed.

 

(vi) Sleeping quarters shall be fitted with electric blankets OR temperature of quarters, controlled

      to be not less man 15degrees Celsius.

 

(vii) All outside sleeping quarters shall be insulated.

 

(viii) All animals must be provided with suitable bedding material that is clean, warm, dry, non

       toxic, and either disposable or easily cleaned. Bedding should be checked daily for cleaning or

      removal. Sleeping benches that elevate the bedding from the floor are recommended.

 

C  Daytime accommodation {i.e confined (luring the day either in outside runs or

owners home} -for a single animal ( For each extra animal Increase floor area

by 20%)

 

  (i) Minimum width 1 metre, minimum floor area, 3 square metres, minimum height 1.5 metres.

  Roofed area two thirds minimum floor area.

 (ii) Additional area which have less than the minimum height shall be accessible in all parts  by the

      outstretched arm.

 (iii) Shelving shall be provided approximately 1 metre from the ground and should permit the cat

       to sunbathe and see outside me run preferably towards the house to maintain human contact.

 

 (iv) The run shall be cat escape proof, situated in such a position as to receive as much winter

        sun as possible, shall not be open to the prevailing wind and shall be provided with

        suitable screens. Although grass runs are permitted, runs accessible to visiting queens must

        be made of permanent material, self draining and able to be cleaned.

 (v) At all times a Cat or Kitten shall be able to get access to rest areas which are:-

(a) Shaded from the hot summer sunshine; and

(b) Open to cooling airflow in summer; and

(c) Sheltered from cold winds at any season.

 

D Exceptions to the Preceding Standards

Note: Cleanliness must be maintained at all times irrespective of exceptions.

(i) When confining a sick or injured Cat or Kitten.

(ii) Personal veterinarian recommendation as to temperature in cases of injury or sickness.

(iii) Temporary accommodation as follows:-

{a} 1 metre x 1/2 metre x 1/2 metre high permissible for a maximum period of 3 days.

 

       {b} For up to one month:-

Run- Floor area reduced to 1.5 square metres and a minimum measurement in any one

        direction of l metre.

Sleeping quarters may be contained within above area.

This may be completely indoors provided ventilation and heating

standards complied with.

This accommodation may be used for visiting queens.

 

{c} Quarantine under Ministry of Agriculture regulations where such regulations

   have maxima laid down less than me minima contained in these standards.

2. FEEDING (except as advised by a veterinarian)

Animals should be fed twice daily. Geriatric Cats and others on special diets may require  feeding three

or four times daily on a' little and often' basis. Kittens under six months of age must

be fed at least three times a day. Fresh water available at all times.

 

3. HYGIENE

Confined animals must be provided at all times, with a sanitary tray containing suitable litter.

All excreted and soiled material should be removed at least once daily, or more often if necessary,

from all living compartments and exercise areas. The accommodation and runs etc should be

maintained in a state of cleanliness conductive to animal comfort and effective disease control.

The floors of living compartments must be kept clean and dry.

 4. Burmese kittens, before being passed to the new owner, shall be:-

(a) Minimum of 12 weeks of age, in New Zealand, or 4(four) calendar months for overseas.

 (b) Minimum of 1.3 kg in weight

 (c) In good health.

 

5. All Burmese kittens, whether retained or sold shall be :-

(a) Fully inoculated against F.LE, F.V.R, - F.C.V. by a vet

(b) Dosed at least twice for roundworms and once for tapeworms.

(c) Registered with N.ZC.F. unless ineligible because of serious disqualifying faults. Which must

be explained to the new owner. It must also be explained that the cat will not be able to be shown at

any N.Z.C.F show.

(d) Not declawed or sold to persons who intend to declaw.

6. Burmese Cats and kittens shall be accompanied by :-

(a) Certificate of F.LE,- F.V.R,- F.V.C. and information on future doses.

(b) A diet and information sheet.

(c) Advice that undesexed pets are not to be used for breeding and are to be desexed by a vet as

     soon as advisable. This advice to be shown on the RECEIPT given for purchase  price paid.

(d) Invitation to join the N.Z.B.C.C and supply the Secretaries name and address.

 

7. (a) Burmese Cats or Kittens sold for breeding must be transferred to the new owner within 14

         days of receipt of full purchase price.

(b) In the case of pets. transfer must be made within 14 days of receipt of evidence of desexing.

(c) A Cat sold for breeding purposes who proves to be infertile on veterinary certification  shall be

     replaced, if required, or the price difference between breeding and pet stock  refunded-

 (d) Issue accurately written 4 generation pedigree forms,(unless the Cat or Kitten is disbarred

      from registration as in 5(c).

  (e) Ensure the continuing welfare of the Cat or Kitten as far as is practical and in the event of

       maltreatment, take such steps as may seem advisable to ensure the future well-being of the cat

       or kitten.

  (f) Offer help and guidance to the future owner. particularly to the new breeder.

   (g) Refund the purchase price or replace free of charge such Cat or Kitten if it dies:

(i) within 3 weeks of delivery subject to a vet report giving the cause of death as

     infectious disease OR

(ii) within 6 months of delivery subject to a vet giving the cause of death as hereditary defect.

   (h) Reach agreement with new owner for recompense of veterinary expenses incurred by Cat

       or Kitten within 2 weeks of delivery for illness certified by a veterinarian surgeon as caused by

       hereditary defect or infectious illness unless pro- delivery explanation and/or concession is

       made in writing.

   

8. Breeders with Stud Cats available for stud service shall:-

(a) Provide a mating contract stating their terms and conditions.

(b) Accept only registered queens owned by registered breeders for stud service.
